New Car, Fixed Specs, Same Bad Hair Cut

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

After much searching I finally managed to find myself a new car before going on holiday. To an extent I had to get over my self pity a little bit. In a way I had something to prove to myself that I wasn’t a person that needed a car to get everywhere. Traveling to bus by work and walking was no trouble, neither was cycling to the new house with building gear on the bike. The simple truth was that these methods took far to long to execute leaving me knackered from the late nights and early mornings. Then I’ve not even started on the effects on my climbing, the word terminal seems to sum them up nicely. Later that week I also managed to get my specs fixed (It only took me 4 months!). The headaches at work from the 6 year old beer goggles have now stopped, so hopefully I wont drive into any more stationary cars on the way home. Cause and effect.

Rock Bottom

The weather at the weekend sadly turned out to be poor and I couldn’t get much of a go at Sabotage. Instead I found myself back on In Bloom trying to warm up in the rain. I managed to repeat the dry section after too many goes failing to grab the final flange. Again this just seems to illustrate that power endurance weak spot I have off late. This photo confirms those lunchtime donuts really have gone to my ass.

Sadly the finger board session never really happened on Sunday, after looking for a new car and finishing the DIY for the night time swiftly ran out. From the brief play I had I found it nasty work both physically and motivationally. I’ll need to try and work out a decent training plan to help with both.

The current work scheduling doesn’t seem to be improving either. I’m sitting writing this post at work at1.30am having just missed the all the buses home and nearly getting jumped by the Livi Neds. Running around through mud and bushes at 11pm afetr buses on a week night really does help you realise you might be pushing yourself too hard in general.

Enough whinging. I need to find a new car soon.

New Weblog

For my first climbing blog post I suppose I should start by discussing my motivation for beginning a weblog. In the past I was never a diary person so I’ve no idea what possessed me to put pen to paper for the first time. What is clear from the first entry In my first climbing diary is that the context was training rather than climbing related. Over time the entries have changed to better represent days spent outside trying different types of routes, as well as specific training for them.

Recording days climibing/training has always been important to me.

I’ve been holding off on starting a weblog for a while now for various reasons. I’ve been getting psyched recently by reading the growing number of climbers blogs on the web. John Watson’s and Dave MacLeod’s blogs are two good examples. I guess I’d like elements from these in my own blog, but first most I’d like to bring those old diary entries into the 21 century.
